What Can You Do When Your Data Knows Where It Is?

When data is self aware it can also be self protecting. Meaning you don’t have to go find the data, the data can tell you where it is and given rules you set for it can protect itself. That is an enormous change in dynamics in how we protect information. Because just finding where your data is going and who is using it is a top concern of security professionals.

Elliot Lewis (@elliotdlewis), CEO, Keyavi and I have been talking about the issue of data protection and self-protecting data for years. But in the past two years, his team has discovered what more you can do once your data knows where it is and can protect itself. The most impactful has been around ransomware. If your data is stolen or copied, the data can delete itself and report back where it was taken, thus making the ransomware effort useless, but more importantly providing information to the authorities as to who may have stolen it.

We’re going to be talking about this at greater length this Friday, October 14th, 2022 for Super Cyber Friday.

Our topic of discussion will be “Hacking Data Protection: An hour of critical thinking about what works best to protect, track, and know who is trying to access your critical information.”

Register for 10-14-22 event here.

Joining me and Elliot for this discussion will be Gary Hayslip (@ghayslip), CISO, Softbank Investment Advisers

It all starts at 1 PM Eastern/10 AM Pacific. At the end of the hour [2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific] we’ll switch gears to our meetup where everyone will get a chance to chat face to face.
