Celebrating 5 Years of CISO Series and Your Career in Cybersecurity

Five years ago today I launched CISOseries.com as a business. Our first podcast had been running a few months, hosted on another cybersecurity platform, and given its popularity I realized this show could have a life of its own. That’s why I launched our own site. At the time, the brand and podcast was known as CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Series/Podcast. Kind of a mouthful, but it took me a number of years to just shorten it to CISO Series.

Since the business’ inception on October 1, 2018 we’ve launched a total five shows with 8-10 episodes supported by 20 pieces of content dropping every week. This is all made possible by a phenomenal team of producers, writers, reporters, editors, a developer, and designer.

What most people don’t realize when creating a media network is a good portion of the work is audience relations. Hearing how much the audience loves the CISO Series is not something I tire of. As I’ve repeatedly joked on our shows, I have a very high tolerance for compliments.

It’s not that we set out to do this, but CISO Series apparently has had a huge impact on the careers of cybersecurity professionals. All levels seem to be impacted. Salespeople tell me they listen to understand what CISOs want. CISOs listen to learn how to become a CISO or to listen to other perspectives of CISOs. And there are those who listen for tips on how to break into the industry.

I’m so proud to show this video, shot at Black Hat 2023, where I interviewed fans I ran into on the show floor and I simply asked them, “What has CISO Series meant to your career?” We’re all pretty excited to show off the results.

BTW, expect to see a lot more. There was a lot left on the cutting room floor still worth showing. Stay tuned.
